About Us

A small crew that grinds stumps for a living

We are a Clearwater crew that does stump grinding and tree work for homeowners. Most jobs are one stump in a backyard, a palm that has died, or a tree the last storm left leaning over the fence.

We tell you what we see from your photo, quote the job, and show up when we said we would. If you don't need us, we'll tell you that too.

  • We match the machine to the yard. A narrow grinder fits through a backyard gate, and we bring a larger unit when there is room for it. We don't tear up the lawn getting in.
  • We grind to the depth you need. Deep enough to lay sod or plant over the spot. If a paver patio, shed or fence post is going there, tell us and we go deeper.
  • We leave the spot tidy. Chips raked up or spread where you want them, the hole backfilled if you asked, and branches hauled off.

How We Work

Clear answers before the grinder starts

Before we quote, we ask what is going in that spot. A stump under new sod needs different work from one under a future driveway, and we price for the job you actually have.

We look for irrigation heads, buried cable and nearby fences before we start. If a stump sits right on a property line or over a utility, we tell you plainly what we can and can't do.

The Process

How a stump job goes

Most stump jobs take three steps, and the first one happens on your phone.

Photo and plan

Send a photo of the stump with something next to it for scale, and tell us what you want in that spot. We quote from that.

Check for lines

We mark sprinkler heads and look for buried lines before the grinder touches the ground. Public utilities get located first.

Grind, clean, backfill

We grind the stump to the agreed depth, then leave the chips as mulch or haul them off and fill the hole with soil.

Questions

What homeowners ask us

Usually several inches below the soil line, which is enough to lay sod or plant over. If a fence post, patio or driveway is going there, we grind deeper and follow the main roots out.

Grinding is faster, costs less and leaves the yard mostly intact. Full removal digs out the root ball, and it only makes sense when something structural is going right where the stump was.

We can leave them in place as mulch, spread them in your beds, or haul them away and backfill with soil. If you want grass in that spot, hauling and backfilling is the better choice.

Most trees won't once the stump is ground below the crown. A few species send up shoots for a season afterward. Cut them back when they appear and they stop.

Usually, yes. Our smaller grinder fits through a 36-inch gate. Tell us about the gate and the path to the stump when you send your photo.

No. Mark the stump, unlock the gate and tell us about any sprinkler heads you know of. We call when we are done and send you a photo.

Yes. Palm stumps are fibrous rather than woody, so they grind differently, but the result is the same: a level spot you can fill and sod over.

It depends on the week and how many storm calls we have. Call or send a photo and we will give you a real date rather than a guess.

Stump Grinding in Clearwater

Stump grinding is what most Clearwater homeowners need once a tree is gone. A grinder with a spinning toothed wheel chews the stump into chips, working down below the soil line, and the roots underneath are left to break down slowly. The yard stays intact apart from the spot itself.

You need it if you are mowing around an old stump, if it has started to rot and draw termites or ants, or if you want to plant or lay sod there. On a visit we check for sprinkler lines, set up the grinder, grind to the depth we agreed on, and clean up. Most single stumps take well under an hour once we are set up.

Stump Removal in Clearwater

Stump removal goes further than grinding. We dig out the root ball as well as the stump, which leaves a much larger hole that needs to be filled and allowed to settle. In the sandy soil common around Clearwater, the fill settles fairly quickly, but it still needs topping up.

It makes sense when you are putting a slab, a shed, a pool deck or a footing right where the tree stood. For a lawn or a planting bed, grinding usually does the job for less work and less disruption. We will tell you which one your plan actually needs.

Root Grinding in Clearwater

Surface roots are common under Clearwater lawns, especially from oaks planted close to the house or the driveway. They catch mower blades, trip people, and lift pavers and sidewalk edges. Root grinding follows those roots out from the stump and takes them down below grade.

You can tell you need it when you see ridges running across the lawn or pavers starting to tilt. Before we grind near a slab or driveway, we look at how close the roots are to the edge. If a root is supporting a living tree, we tell you what cutting it might do before we touch it.

Tree Removal in Clearwater

Tree removal on a Clearwater lot usually means working close to a roof, a pool cage, a fence or overhead lines. We take most trees down in sections rather than felling them whole, so each piece lands where we want it.

Signs a tree should come down include a trunk leaning further than it used to, large dead limbs, fungus at the base, cracks where big branches meet the trunk, or roots heaving the ground. During a visit we look at the tree and what it could hit, then plan the cuts and the cleanup. We can grind the stump the same day if you want.

Tree Trimming in Clearwater

Trimming keeps branches off the roof, away from the pool cage and clear of the driveway. In Clearwater it also matters before hurricane season, when long, heavy limbs over a house are the ones most likely to come down.

You probably need trimming if branches rub the roof or gutters, if limbs hang over the drive low enough to hit a truck, or if there is deadwood in the canopy. We cut back to healthy wood and avoid stripping a tree bare, which weakens it. We haul the branches away when we are done.

Palm Tree Removal in Clearwater

Palms are everywhere in Clearwater yards, and they fail differently from oaks. A palm with a dead or drooping crown, a trunk that has narrowed sharply, or a soft spot near the top is usually not coming back.

Tall palms come down in sections from the top. Short ones can sometimes be cut at the base and lowered. Palm stumps are fibrous rather than woody, and they grind out to a soft, stringy mulch. Most homeowners have us haul that away and backfill so the spot can be sodded.

Storm Cleanup in Clearwater

After a tropical storm or a strong summer squall, Clearwater yards end up with snapped limbs, uprooted trees and palm fronds everywhere. Storm cleanup means cutting up what came down, taking off hanging limbs, and hauling it all away.

If a limb is resting on a power line, call the utility first and stay clear. For trees on a roof or blocking a driveway, call us and send photos. We sort what is urgent from what can wait, start with whatever is causing damage, then clear and grind what is left.
